Severe thunderstorms, snow, and strong winds expected across Ontario

Thunderstorms are possible across southern and central Ontario today.

Some of these storms could become severe with heavy rain, hail, and strong winds. Heavy rain between 20 to 30 mm, wind gusts to 90 km/h, and large hail of 2 to 3 cm is possible this afternoon and evening.

Stormy weather will persist into Wednesday.

An area of low pressure will move across northern Ontario today bringing snow and mixed precipitation to the area.

Snow is expected to begin Tuesday morning near the Manitoba border and will spread eastward today. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 20 cm is expected from Fort Frances to Atikokan northward through Ignace, Armstrong and Ogoki Post. Locally, snowfall amounts could be higher.

Areas surrounding this swath are expected to receive 5 to 10 cm of snow.

Showers are expected to change to freezing rain or ice pellets Tuesday evening, before changing over to snow. Any ice accretion is expected to be minimal.
