Significant snow expected for the Avalon Peninsula

An area of low pressure is expected to pass southeast of the Avalon Peninsula on Tuesday.

This low has the potential to bring significant snow and strong winds to the Avalon.

There is the potential for snowfall amounts of 20 to 40 cm and wind gusts to 90 km/h.

The snow combined with strong winds will result in reduced visibility and blowing snow and will likely cause travel disruptions.

There is a special weather statement in effect for:

  • Avalon Peninsula North

  • Avalon Peninsula Southeast

  • Avalon Peninsula Southwest

  • St. John's and vicinity
