Snow and gusty winds close schools in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia


Nova Scotia

Snow will continue across the province this morning before coming to an end this afternoon.

About 15 cm of snow is expected along with gusty winds.


Newfoundland

There are winter storm warnings in effect across eastern areas of Newfoundland. Snow will begin this morning and will be heavy at times this afternoon. Gusty winds will become stronger this evening resulting in poor visibility in blowing snow.


Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm is likely for most areas, accumulations may reach 15 to 25 cm on the Avalon Peninsula. Wind gusts from 60 to 70 km/h are also expected.


Conditions will improve overnight on Monday.


Travel Disruptions

Wind conditions today may result in restrictions of traffic on the Confederation Bridge commencing approximately at noon until approximately 8:00 p.m.


Marine Atlantic is not sailing this morning and there could be impacts to tonight's crossings also.


Closures

Several schools in central and eastern Newfoundland are either closed all day or are closing early. Several schools in Nova Scotia are also closed.
