Snow squalls expected to bring significant snow to parts of Newfoundland

Snow squall watches have been issued across western, southern, and eastern Newfoundland.

These snow squalls will develop on Thursday and persist through Friday and into Friday night.

Snow squalls will be most persistent along the west coast of the Island. In these areas snowfall amounts of 20 to 50 cm are possible. Winds will also gust from 70 to 100 km/h at times.

Along the south coast, snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm are possible. Wind gusts from 70 to 90 km/h are possible.

On the Avalon Peninsula, amounts of 10 to 20 cm are likely. Locally more could fall over the southwestern Avalon.

In areas of snow squalls, visibility may be reduced to near zero.
