Snow squalls persist across Southern Ontario

Snow squalls are continuing across Southern Ontario.


Areas southeast of Lake Huron will continue to see snow squalls today, with additional local accumulation of 20 to 50 cm possible. Snow squalls will weaken tonight.


Lake effect snow squalls from Georgian Bay will continue through Friday. Additional local accumulation of 20 to 40 cm is expected, with higher amounts possible. Total snowfall accumulation could exceed 60 cm in some areas before these snow squalls weaken or move out of the area beginning Friday night.


Local snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are expected for areas Southeast of Georgian Bay.

Areas North of Lake Ontario between Bowmanville and Grafton will see snowfall amounts of 5 to 15 cm.

Snowfall Forecast for Friday

Toronto 0–5 cm, with brief snow squalls reducing visibility and producing sudden slick spots; highest squall risk in northern suburbs and near Lake Simcoe corridor.


Hamilton — 5–12 cm near the escarpment/coastal exposures; inland spots may see less if squall bands stay offshore.


Kitchener–Waterloo — 5–15 cm, especially where lake-effect bands propagate inland from Lake Huron.


Guelph — 5–12 cm, pockets of heavier totals where squalls set up over southwestern Ontario.


Barrie — 15–35 cm, higher risk area from Georgian Bay lake-effect bands; locally much higher amounts where bands lock in.


Collingwood — 20–50 cm, one of the highest-risk southern-Ontario locations — strong lake-effect bands off Georgian Bay can produce very heavy localized totals.


Owen Sound — 20–50+ cm in favoured snowbelt locations; expect intense, narrow bands and blowing snow at times.


London — 5–15 cm, with heavier bursts possible if Lake Huron bands eject inland toward southwestern Ontario.


Windsor — 0–5 cm, mostly light snow or flurries; greatest impacts farther up the lake-effect corridor.
