A state of emergency has been declared in Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, San Bernardino and San Diego, California.

The areas are being ravaged by wildfires.

One particularly fast-moving wildfire resulted in 200 people being airlifted to safety near Mammoth Pool Reservoir in northern California.

General Daniel Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau said on Twitter, "simply extraordinary, lifesaving work by the CalGuard [sic] airlifting more than 200 people to safety overnight from the imminent danger of the Creek Fire."

Of those evacuated, twenty were taken to hospital. Two of which were seriously injured.
