Storm system impacting Atlantic Canada
Rain is currently falling over most of New Brunswick, western Prince Edward Island, and portions of southern Nova Scotia as a low moves through the area.
There are wind warnings and rainfall warnings in effect for eastern Quebec. Rainfall amounts between 50 and 80 mm are expected with some gusts to 100 mm. Additionally, winds may gust to 100 km/h.
In New Brunswick, rainfall warnings are in effect for the eastern sections of the province. Rain will continue today and tonight, then briefly change over to snow overnight in some regions before clearing on Tuesday. Rainfall amounts of 50 to 70 mm is expected. There will be wind gusts to 70 km/h in some areas.
Across Prince Edward Island heavy rain is expected. Heavy rain is expected tonight and Tuesday with 60 to 90 mm expected.
Rainfall warnings are in effect for the entire province of Nova Scotia with a few wind warnings. For areas under the rainfall warning, 60 to 90 mm is excepted possibly reaching 100 to 150 mm in isolated areas of heaviest rain over and eastern Nova Scotia. For areas under the wind warning gusts to 100 km/h are possible. Winds will gust to 120 in the Inverness County - Mabou and north region.
There are wind warnings in effect for parts of the west coast of Newfoundland. Gusts to 100 km/h are possible. In the Wreckhouse area gusts could reach 150 km/h. Heavy rain is expected for the Channel-Port aux Basques to Burgeo area where 200 mm of rain could fall.
Marine Atlantic has changed its schedule. The crossing from North Sydney to Port aux Basques scheduled for this morning at 11:45 am will depart at 10:45 am weather permitting.
Both crossings for tonight have been cancelled and crossing could be impacted to Thursday.
There is the potential for localized flooding and power outages from this storm. Prior to the arrival of the storm, it is a good idea to clear any debris from storm drains, bring outside items inside, and have an emergency kit ready.
