Storm system impacting Ontario this weekend

An area of low pressure will impact the vast majority of Ontario on Saturday and to an extent Sunday.

For areas northeast of Lake Superior, rain began on Friday and will move eastward on Saturday. Rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm are possible on Saturday. Some areas could receive total rainfall amounts of 50 to 75 mm. The rain could result in localized flooding.

The rain will come to an end on Saturday night.

There could be an area of freezing rain for areas north of Lake Superior. Some areas could receive 2 to 5 mm of freezing rain.

To the north and west of the area of freezing rain, snow is expected. Areas near Gull Bay and Armstrong northeast to Fort Hope could see 10 cm of snow on Saturday.

Strong winds are also a concern. Southern Ontario and portions of northeastern Ontario could see wind gusts from 70 to 90 km/h Saturday night into Sunday morning. Localized power outages are possible.

On Sunday strong winds are expected across parts of northeastern Ontario. Gusts from 70 to 90 km/h are possible.
