An area of low pressure will pass to the east of Nova Scotia and over Newfoundland bringing heavy snow to Nova Scotia and eastern Prince Edward Island this afternoon and snow, rain, and ice pellets to Newfoundland on Thursday.

Nova Scotia

For Nova Scotia snow is expected. Snow will begin this afternoon and continue through Thursday afternoon. Along the southern shore of Nova Scotia, the snow will mix with rain at times. The heaviest snow will be just inland over Atlantic facing shores.

Snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 cm are possible.

Prince Edward Island

For central and eastern Prince Edward Island 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected. The snow will begin tonight and taper off on Thursday morning.

For the St. John's metro area and southern Avalon, the weather will be messy. We are expecting snow, rain, and ice pellets. Snowfall amounts will range anywhere from 5 to 15 cm. About 10 to 20 mm of rain is excepted for St. John's with higher amounts over the southeastern Avalon. Winds will gust from 70 km/h to 110 km/h.
