Stormy Christmas Expected in Southern Quebec and Southern Ontario

It could end up being a stormy Christmas across southern Ontario and southern Quebec.

Rain, associated with an area of low pressure, will push across southern Ontario overnight. Rain will continue into Christmas Eve. Total rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 mm appear likely.

Then on Thursday evening or Thursday night, the rain is expected to change over to snow after the passage of a strong cold front. A few centimetres of snowfall accumulation will be possible Thursday night through Friday morning. Snow will end on Friday night.

Before the transition to snow, there is the potential that there could be some freezing rain in a vertical line from around the GTA north to around North Bay.

In southern Quebec, it will mostly be rain. Areas north of the St. Lawrence River will receive the most rain. Rainfall amounts of 20 to 60 millimetres are expected with up to 80 mm in the Charlevoix area.

In southwestern Quebec snow and mixed precipitation are expected.

Winds will also be strong.
