Strong earthquake in Banda Sea

On Wednesday afternoon a 7.1 magnitude earthquake occurred 338.2 km south-southeast of Ambon, Indonesia.

The earthquake occurred at 1:53 p.m. local time at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Originally the United States Geological Survey said the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.9, but it was later updated to a 7.1.

The NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu, Hawaii said there was no tsunami threat from the earthquake.
