Strong Earthquake off the Coast of Russia
The USGS reported a 6.9 magnitude earthquake 93.3 km east-northeast of Kurilsk, Russia on Thursday evening.
It was at a depth of 142 km.
There were no injuries or damage.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said there was no tsunami threat to Japan.
Located along the Pacific Ring of Fire, the area is a hotbed for earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
