Strong winds recorded across southern Ontario as thunderstorms roll through


On Monday severe thunderstorms pushed across southern and northeastern prompting severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings.


Environment and Climate Change Canada received reports of utility outages and tree and property damage as a result of strong wind gusts from these thunderstorms, particularly across portions of extreme southwestern Ontario.


Below is a summary of peak wind gusts:

  • Windsor Airport: 100 km/h

  • Chatham-Kent: 89 km/h

  • Ottawa Airport: 80 km/h

  • London Airport: 78 km/h

  • Brantford Airport: 77 km/h

  • Sarnia: 74 km/h

  • Timmins: 74 km/h
