The Town of Summerland, British Columbia, has been evacuated due to a fast-moving wildfire.
The community of about 12,000, located roughly 18 kilometres north of Penticton, on the west side of Okanagan Lake, was placed under an evacuation order due to the Bald Range wildfire.
Officials warned that all residents were to leave immediately.
The alert was issued overnight. The Bald Range wildfire exploded, creating a significant risk to life. The wildfire is out of control and currently 5,000 Hectares in size.
Residents were to evacuate to 550 Eckhardt Avenue West in Penticton. Those unable to leave were asked to call 9-1-1.
