The next tropical storm could form by this weekend

There is a large tropical wave located near the Lesser Antilles that is producing an area of disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity.

While short term environmental conditions are not favourable for development, conditions are forecast to gradually become more conducive for development while the system moves west-northwestward over the Greater Antilles and towards the Bahamas.

The National Hurricane Center says a tropical depression could form by this weekend while the system is in the vicinity of the Greater Antilles, Bahamas, or near Florida.

There is a 60 percent chance of formation over the next seven days.

The next named storm will be Debby.
