The Personal Toll of Storm Chasing

Hurricane Laura damage. Photo by Kyle Cutten

We spoke to Kyle Cutten, a storm chaser who recently covered Hurricane Laura in Louisiana. We wanted to focus on the untold stories of storm chasers. The personal impact.

He was too close at the chlorine fire Lake Charles, LA. As a result, he sustained permanent lung damage and will need to be on medication for the rest of his life.

This was his first-year storm chasing. He still hasn't gotten over seeing people's homes and livelihoods be destroyed.

He was diagnosed with PTSD as a result of the hurricane.

Cutten posted the first daybreak footage of Laura.

With storms becoming more frequent and damaging from climate change, storm chasers are becoming more and more important in the storytelling process.
