Thunderstorms knock out power on parts of the Avalon Peninsula


Thunderstorms rolled across the Avalon and Burin Peninsula in Newfoundland this morning causing power outages in some areas.


About 1,500 customers are without power on the southern Avalon.


Outages have been reported in Riverhead, Mall Bay, Admiral's Beach, St. Mary's, Gaskiers, St. Vincent's, Peter's River, Trepassey, Biscay Bay, Cape Race, and St. Shot's.


Newfoundland Power lists the outage reason as lightning.


There is no estimated restoration time.


There will be a risk of thunderstorms throughout the day.
