Tornado hits New Orleans


A tornado ripped through portions of New Orleans on Tuesday night.


Authorities have confirmed at least one fatality. Several others have been injured.


The twister left a path of overturned cars, destroyed homes, and tree damage. In New Orleans, there were around 13,000 power outages.


Widespread damage was reported in St. Bernard Parish, on the outskirts of New Orleans. The National Weather Service has rated the tornado as at least an EF-3.


The Storm Prediction Center received reports of 34 tornadoes, 61 reports of wind damage, and seven reports of hail.


Severe storms are possible across the eastern half of the United States today.
