Tornado near Blackie Alberta

Environment and Climate Change Canada has confirmed a tornado near Blackie, Alberta on Saturday.


A severe thunderstorm developed north of High River and moved eastward past the community of Blackie.


There were reports of up to toonie-sized hail and a tornado during much of the lifespan of the storm.


Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologists are seeking pictures of the tornado and/or damage it may have caused. Blackie is located approximately 70 kilometres southeast of Calgary on Highway 799. As of 2011, the community had a population of 343.
