Tornado touches down in Ottawa

Ottawa Fire Services respond to tornado damage.

On Thursday evening there was a tornado in Ottawa.


Environment and Climate Change Canada confirmed a tornado touched down northwest of Metcalfe.


The twister caused damage to homes, destroyed trees and knocked out power to thousands of people.


Hydro Ottawa reported about 5,000 customers were without power.


The damage has not yet been fully accessed and the tornado has not yet been rated.
