Twister sequel announced

If you ask any weather nerd what their favourite movie is, there's a good chance the answer is Twister.

The 1996 film Twister starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton captivated audiences. It grossed $495 million worldwide and became the second-highest-grossing film of 1996.

The film is set during the most powerful storm in decades when university professor Dr. Jo Harding and a team of students prepare the prototype for Dorothy, a new tornado data-gathering device conceived by her estranged husband, Bill. Bill meets up with Harding and they embark on one last mission.

Now the iconic film is getting a sequel. Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment announced that production could start as early as the spring of 2023.

There is no word on if Helen Hunt will return to reprise her role. Bill Paxton died in 2017.
