Very heavy rain expected across eastern Newfoundland

From now until Wednesday the Avalon Peninsula and Burin Peninsula will be contending with heavy amounts of rain.

Over 100 mm of rain is possible by Wednesday afternoon. As a result, there are rainfall warnings in effect for the Avalon Peninsula North, Avalon Peninsula Southeast, Avalon Peninsula Southwest, the Burin Peninsula, and St. John's and vicinity.

The ground in the area is already saturated. There is the potential for flooding and water levels near bodies of water will be elevated and could flow over the banks. Those travelling should be aware that water will pool on roads, and erosion of road shoulders could occur.
