Weather, Traffic, and School Update for the Avalon #nlwx


There are snowfall warnings and wind warnings in effect for the Avalon Peninsula Southeast and St. John's and vicinity.


An area of low pressure will bring snow to the Avalon and Burin Peninsula today. Snow will continue tonight over the Avalon Peninsula. 15 to 20 cm of snow is expected for the eastern half of the Avalon.


As the low passes southeast of the Avalon winds will pick up with northerly gusts between 80 km/h, and 100 along parts of the coast. The strong winds will continue until noon Saturday.


As of 7:00 am roads on the southern Avalon Peninsula are snow-covered while roads on the northern Avalon Peninsula are partly snow-covered with a few slushy patches. Visibility remains fair.


Several schools are closed for the morning with an update coming at 10:30 am.
