A weather system will move across Newfoundland and Labrador, Cape Breton Island, and Prince Edward Island just in time for holiday travel.

On Monday night snow will spread across southern Labrador and spread across Newfoundland, Cape Breton Island, and Prince Edward Island before dawn.

At this time it appears as though the mixed precipitation will remain offshore. A slight shift in the track could deliver some rain to the Avalon and/or Burin Peninsula.

Snow will abate west to east and should clear out of St. John's by Christmas Day morning.

Some areas could pick up 30 cm of snow.

The system will be accompanied by strong winds also with gusts to 90 km/h expected over some exposed coastal areas of Newfoundland and gusts to 60 km/h inland.

Snow combined with strong winds will cause blowing snow and whiteout conditions.

Another snow event could be on the horizon later next week too.
