Search and rescue operations are underway in Nova Scotia after the province experienced heavy rain. Four people are missing.

Over 250 mm of rain fell in just a few hours on Friday.

The RCMP reported several road closures due to flooding. Many roads in Halifax are closed and there is flooding on highways 101, 102, 103, 107, 111 and 118.

Damage was reported to homes and businesses.

Halifax was also hit. Residents of the city were advised to stay off the roads as there is significant damage to roads and infrastructure. Conditions are not safe for vehicles and pedestrians at this time.

About 150 residents of Halifax have been displaced due to the flooding. Two evacuation centres have been set up. One at the East Dartmouth Community Centre and the other at the Beaver Bank Community Centre.

Nova Scotia Power has activated its Emergency Operations Centre. There are over 8,000 customers without power across the province. Most of the outages are in the southeastern corner of Nova Scotia.

Eastern Nova Scotia including Cape Breton will continue to see rain today. It will end tonight.
