Winter storm to hit northern Ontario Thursday and Friday

Northern and central Ontario is in for a messy mix of weather on Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday snow, rain, and ice pellets are expected across northern sections of Ontario.

For areas to the northwest of Lake Superior, snow and ice pellets are expected from Geraldton west to the Manitoba border. On Thursday and into Friday 10 to 15 cm of snow is possible with additional amounts on Friday.

For areas east of Lake Superior to the Quebec border rain will be the primary concern with the risk of some ice pellets or freezing rain. Rain will begin on Thursday morning with accumulations of 20 to 40 mm possible by Friday early morning. As the temperature dips overnight, the rain could change to ice pellets or freezing rain.

Conditions will deteriorate further across the same area on Friday with snow, rain, mixed precipitation, and strong winds developing. It is a bit too early to provide specifics on what to expect on Friday.
