Wintry mix of weather to impact eastern Newfoundland

Late this afternoon snow will push south to north across eastern and central Newfoundland.

Snow will quickly change to ice pellets and then freezing rain over the Avalon and Burin Peninsula. The freezing rain will persist for several hours. The freezing rain will change to rain over areas just above freezing. The southern Avalon will see more rain than the northern Avalon.

For the Bonavista Peninsula and Clarenville, snowfall and ice pellets amounts of 5 to 15 cm is expected. There will also be a couple of hours of freezing rain.

The system will move out early Friday morning.

There is the potential for power outages, slippery road conditions, and walkways.
