The earthquake was centred 1399.4 km northeast of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

The USGS says that the earthquake was recorded at 12:05 om UTC and had a depth of 10.0 km.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.0 is considered moderate.

It was not strong enough to generate a tsunami.
