6.1 Magnitude Earthquake in Argentina


There was a 6.1 magnitude earthquake 37 km west-northwest of San Antonio de los Cobres, Argentina on Sunday.


It was at a depth of 217.0 km.


Little or no landslides occurred and the area is sparsely populated. Weak shaking might have been felt in San Antonio de los Cobres.


The earthquake was also felt in Bolivia, Chile, and Paraguay.


Earthquakes are common in the Andes Mountains because they are near the boundary of two tectonic plates.
