Avalon Peninsula starts digging out from nearly 50 cm of snow
The clean-up is underway on the Avalon Peninsula after a winter storm brought significant amounts of snow to the region.
Snow began on Friday night and continued on Saturday through Saturday night dropping about 50 cm of snow in the St. John's metro area.
The snow has moved offshore away from eastern Newfoundland. Winds remain gusty this morning but will gradually decrease as the day progresses.
Newfoundland Power crews are working to restore power but the power is still out in some locations.
Roads on the Avalon Peninsula are snow-covered with icy patches and drifting snow.
