Canadian Forces mobilize to respond to Atlantic Canada

The Federal Government has approved a Request for Federal Assistance from the Provincial Government of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.


Federal Minister of Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair has approved requests for Federal assistance.


The Canadian Forces will help local authorities ensure the safety of residents, as well as assist in assessing the damage from Hurricane Fiona.


In Nova Scotia, the military will provide assistance with transporting people to evacuation centres and help remove debris.


In Newfoundland, MP Seamus O'Regan said the Canadian Forces Rangers will immediately assess the situation. There are also three platoons of reservists on standby, 100 personnel and the HMCS Goose Bay and HMCS Margaret Brooke in St. John's are ready to help.
