A 7.3 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Alaska has prompted a tsunami warning for parts of the Alaska coast.

The earthquake occurred at 12:37 p.m. at a depth of 20 kilometres and was 87.6 km south of Sand Point, Alaska.

There was a tsunami warning in effect for south Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula, Pacific coasts from Kennedy Entrance, Alaska (40 miles SW of Homer) to Unimak Pass, Alaska (80 miles NE of Unalaska). The warning was downgraded to an advisory and later discontinued.
