Earthquake off the coast of Ecuador

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Ecuador.


The earthquake occurred at 7:44 a.m. local time and was centred 20.9 kilometres northeast of Esmeraldas, Ecuador at a depth of 35 kilometres.


Esmeraldas has a population of 155,487.


Ecuador is part of the Ring of Fire, a tectonic belt of volcanoes and earthquakes.
