Earthquake off the coast of Japan


A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Japan at 6:28 pm local time today.


The earthquake was centred 129.3 km east-northeast of Misawa, Japan and at a depth of 30 kilometres. Misawa has a population of about 39,000.


The earthquake struck off the coast of Aomori Prefecture. There were no tsunami warnings, tsunami warnings or advisories issued.


There were no reports of any damage or injuries.


Earthquakes are common in Japan since the country is located on the Pacific "Ring of Fire".
