Eastern Newfoundland to see snow this afternoon

A quick shot of snow is expected this afternoon and evening from St. John's to Terra Nova National Park.

This afternoon an area of low pressure located across the south coast will move across eastern Newfoundland.

Rain is expected for the Burin Peninsula and for some coastal areas of the Avalon but snow will be the dominant form of precipitation.

While the snow is only expected to last a couple of hours, there will be brief heavy snow. Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are expected. This snow will have an impact on the afternoon commute.

For the Burin and Avalon Peninsula, winds will pick up this afternoon and evening. Gusts to 90 km/h are possible. In areas of snow, blowing snow will also be a problem.
