Explosion at oil refinery in Newfoundland

There has been an explosion at the Come By Chance Refinery in Newfoundland. The explosion happened around 4:00 pm local time this afternoon.

Eight individuals were transported to hospital, some with serious injuries as a result of the blast.

The fire caused by the explosion has been contained leaving no further danger at the worksite and all employees have been accounted for.

There is no word on the cause of the explosion. Both the RCMP and Occupational Health and Safety are investigating.
