Heavy snow, cold temperatures and blowing snow are expected across parts of southern Ontario on Sunday, with hazardous travel conditions likely.
Parts of the Golden Horseshoe, including the Greater Toronto Area, could receive 20 to 30 centimetres of snow. Wind chill values near –20 are also forecast.
A band of lake-effect snow off Lake Ontario is expected to develop early Sunday, affecting areas from western Northumberland County to Toronto. As a broader weather system moves in later in the morning, lake enhancement is expected to boost snowfall totals, particularly across the GTA. The heaviest snow is forecast to shift south toward Oakville and Burlington later in the day as winds turn northeasterly.
Visibility may be significantly reduced at times, with difficult travel conditions and possible road closures.
Areas north of Lake Erie, including portions of the Golden Horseshoe from Hamilton to Niagara, are expected to see 10 to 25 centimetres of snow. Local blowing snow is possible in open areas, and wind chill values could approach –25.
Farther north, regions northeast of Lake Superior are forecast to receive lake-effect snow Sunday morning into the afternoon, leading to snow-covered and slippery roads.
Motorists are advised to adjust travel plans and monitor weather updates as conditions evolve.
