High Waves, Pounding Surf & High Water Levels Expected Along NL Coast

The Provincial Government is advising residents to be cautious around coastlines in the coming days.

High waves, pounding surf and higher than normal water levels are expected to continue across the northeast and east coasts of Newfoundland through the remainder of the week according to Environment Canada.

There is a chance of localized coastal flooding over the next few days, particularly over low-lying areas exposed to the north-northeast near high tides. The highest probability of flooding could occur near Saturday morning’s high tide. High swell waves may also extend to parts of the southwestern Avalon Peninsula and the eastern side of the Burin Peninsula this weekend.

Municipalities and local service districts should monitor coastal infrastructure.
