Lake Charles Radar Back Online

The radar in Lake Charles, Louisiana is back online after being destroyed by Hurricane Laura in August.

It was completed ahead of schedule.

Back on August 27 when Hurricane roared ashore in Louisiana, it was a category four hurricane.

The radar at the NWS Lake Charles forecast office was destroyed around the time of landfall, with its dome and much of its internal equipment sheared from the radar tower's base.

The office had its staff evacuate in advance of the storm, and the office's operations being transferred in the interim to the NWS office in Brownsville, Texas.
