Larry still on track to deliver blow to southern and eastern Newfoundland

This morning Hurricane Larry is about 1230 km southwest of Cape Race and has maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h with higher gusts.

Any loose objects outside should be secured or brought inside by this afternoon. Additionally, you should have an emergency kit assembled by now.

Hurricane conditions are expected within the hurricane warning area tonight, with tropical storm conditions expected by late today.

The track this morning takes the center of Larry passing over Placentia Bay and through Trinity Bay overnight.

Winds may gust as high as 160 km/h over southeastern Newfoundland overnight. Winds are expected to gust to 150 km/h in St. John's and gusts to 140 km/h on the Baccalieu Trail.

Rainfall amounts between 25 and 50 mm are possible.

Larry will also produce a dangerous storm surge. There is a storm surge warning for Connaigre, Avalon Peninsula Southeast, Avalon Peninsula Southwest, and the Burin Peninsula. Waves between 10 and 14 metres are possible from 10:00 pm to 2:00 am. Coastal flooding is possible.

Swells generated by Larry will continue to affect the Bahamas today. Significant swells from Larry will continue affecting Bermuda, the east coast of the United States, and Atlantic Canada through Saturday. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
