Messy weekend ahead for Atlantic Canada



An area of low pressure will push across the Maritimes this afternoon through Sunday and will bring mixed precipitation to the region.


Snow is expected across most of New Brunswick, For western, central, and northeastern sections, 30 to 40 cm of snow could fall.


Snow, heavy at times, will change to ice pellets then freezing rain tonight then changing briefly back to snow overnight before ending early Sunday morning across portions of southern and eastern New Brunswick.


40 to 50 mm of rain is expected for regions near the Fundy Coast as well as Sussex - Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County.


For Prince Edward Island, 10 to 15 cm of snowfall is expected before it changes to rain late tonight and then back to snow or ice pellets Sunday morning before ending. Freezing rain is also possible tonight and Sunday morning.


Across mainland Nova Scotia 25 to 50 mm of rain is expected this weekend. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Beginning overnight tonight, winds in the Margaree Harbour to Bay St. Lawrence area may gust to 110 km/h before diminishing by noon on Sunday.


Newfoundland will also see impacts from this storm with snow pushing across most areas today changing to rain and continuing through Sunday. The rain will largely miss the Avalon Peninsula until Sunday night.


Some areas of the south and west coast could see 10 to 20 mm of rain. Snowfall amounts will be minimal.


Sunday morning, gusts to 150 km/h are possible in the Wreckhouse area.
