Several communities across Newfoundland and Labrador set new daily temperature records on April 20, according to Environment Canada.
In Labrador, the Cartwright area recorded a high of 13.1°C, breaking the previous record of 12.1°C set in 2024. Temperature records in that area date back to 1934.

The most significant record was set in the St. John’s area, where temperatures climbed to 19.9°C at St. John’s International Airport. That broke a long-standing record of 17.8°C set in 1884, with records in the area dating back to 1874.
Additional records were set in Terra Nova National Park, where temperatures reached 18.0°C, and in Twillingate, which recorded a high of 17.1°C—both exceeding previous marks set in 2013 and 1954, respectively.
