National test of the Alert Ready system today

Today there will be a national test of the Alert Ready system across Canada.

Some provinces do not have a test scheduled.

Here are the times that tests are scheduled:

  • British Columbia 1:55 PDT

  • Manitoba 1:55 CDT

  • New Brunswick 10:55 ADT

  • Newfoundland and Labrador 10:55 NDT

  • Prince Edward Island 12:55 ADT

  • Saskatchewan 1:55 CDT

  • Yukon 1:55 PDT

Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario and Quebec do not have a test scheduled.

The Alert Ready system was developed with many partners including federal, provincial, and territorial emergency management officials, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Pelmorex, the broadcasting industry and wireless service providers. The system enables designated government authorities to rapidly warn the public of imminent or unfolding threats to life.

Not all Canadians will receive the test alert on their wireless device. This may occur for a variety of reasons, including device compatibility, connection to an LTE network, cell tower coverage, device software and settings.

Canadians are reminded to not call 911 for information about the test. Using 911 for non-emergency calls could delay help for people experiencing real emergencies.
