NHC Tracking First Disturbance of the Season

The Atlantic Hurricane Season doesn't officially begin until June 1, but there is an area in the Atlantic basin that the National Hurricane Center is watching.

A trough of low pressure located over the northwestern Bahamas is producing disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity.

While little development is expected during the next couple of days as the system moves generally northwestward toward the Florida Peninsula, locally heavy rains are possible over portions of the Bahamas and the Florida Peninsula during the next couple of days.

The formation chance through 48 hours is near 0 percent. The formation chance through 5 days is low, at 20 percent.
