Nunavut Records Strong Wind Gusts



This past weekend and into Tuesday there was a powerful storm in parts of Nunavut.


The storm moved north from Nunavik into Hudson Strait bringing severe wind gusts, heavy snow, and blizzard conditions to many communities.


In some cases, there were large snowdrifts, structural damage and several hours of near-zero visibility.


The following is a summary of weather event information received by Environment and Climate Change Canada.


Peak Wind Gusts:

  • Pangnirtung: 136 km/h

  • Kimmirut: 120 km/h

  • Coral Harbour: 115 km/h

  • Grise Fiord: 107 km/h

  • Iqaluit: 83 km/h

  • Kinngait: 81 km/h
