Over 400 mm of rain possible in southwestern Newfoundland
Eastern mainland Nova Scotia, and most of Cape Breton are continuing to receive heavy rainfall. By tomorrow morning these areas could see 60 to 120 mm.
Across Margaree Harbour to Bay St. Lawrence, wind gusts up to 130 km/h are possible.
Heavy rain will cause flooding in southwestern Newfoundland. Rainfall amounts of 100 to 200 mm is expected. Some model guidance suggests 400 mm of rain is possible over higher terrain. Flash flooding is expected. There is a possibility of washouts and closures of roads and bridges. Landslides may also occur.
Elsewhere in western Newfoundland total rainfall of 50 to 100 mm, potentially reaching 200 mm inland and over higher terrain is expected.
Strong wind gusts between 80 and 100 km/h are continuing. In the Wrkeckhouse area gusts between 120 and 140 km/h are expected.
Significant rainfall and snowfall is possible in central and northeastern Newfoundland Wednesday morning until Friday. Rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm and 15 cm of snow is possible.
Across southeastern Labrador winds will gust between 80 to 100 km/h. Hopedale to Makkovik will see gusts between 80 km/h, except 110 along parts of the coast. The strong winds will continue until this afternoon.
