Possible late season development in the Atlantic

Hurricane season may have ended but the National Hurricane Center is watching an area of low pressure that is located over the central subtropical Atlantic several hundred kilometres northeast of the northern Leeward Islands.

The low is producing showers and thunderstorms and the local environment is conducive for a subtropical or tropical storm to form over the next couple of days.

There is about a 50 percent chance of this system forming. If it does form it will likely be short-lived.

If another storm does form this year it will be called Owen.

At this time the low poses no threat to land.
