Potential Storm for the Avalon Thursday and Friday

A developing area of low pressure is expected to strengthen as it moves off the east coast of the United States Wednesday night.

The low will pass southeast of the Avalon Peninsula on Thursday sending snow to the Avalon Peninsula, Clarenville, and the Bonavista Peninsula.

There is still some model discrepancy in the system for Thursday when it comes to snowfall amounts.

There is the potential for significant amounts of snow, possibly more than 20 centimetres. The snowfall will largely depend on the exact track of the storm.

It looks like it will impact the Avalon beginning Thursday afternoon with snow continuing overnight and into Friday with strong winds.

If the storm does impact the regions as expected, there will likely be disruption to transportation and potentially school closures on Friday morning.
