Powerful earthquake recorded in the Atlantic Ocean
There was a 6.6 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Antigua and Barbuda on Monday afternoon. The earthquake occurred 274.4 km north-northeast of Codrington, Antigua and Barbuda at 4:28 pm local time.
A 4.2 magnitude aftershock followed the initial earthquake.
It was at a depth of 10 kilometres.
The earthquake was felt on nearby islands.
There was no tsunami threat due to this event.
The earthquake occurred along the North American and Caribbean tectonic plates. The area does not typically see earthquakes.
