Powerful earthquake rocks Cuba



A magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred 39.8 km south of Bartolomé Masó, Cuba at 11:49 a.m. local time today.


The earthquake was at a depth of 23 kilometres.


The NWS National Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami danger for the U.S. east coast, the Gulf of Mexico states, or the eastern coast of Canada.


Earthquakes of this size are known to generate tsunamis dangerous to shorelines near the source. So far, there have been no reports of a tsunami.


There were no immediate reports of damage.
